Robbery on Sambalpur-Jammu Tawi Express: Passengers Allege RPF Negligence

Bhubaneswar: A gang of 12 armed robbers looted passengers on the Sambalpur-Jammu Tawi Express in Jharkhand on Saturday night. The incident took place around 11 PM while the train was en route from Latehar to Barwadih.

The robbers brandished firearms and other weapons, forcibly entered the S-9 coach of the train, and held up numerous passengers at gunpoint. They made off with valuable loot, including precious ornaments worth lakhs of rupees, cash, and other belongings. Some passengers were also physically assaulted during the ordeal.

The situation escalated when the train reached Daltonganj, with passengers raising alarm about the lack of security on board. This led to a tense atmosphere at the station, causing the train to halt for nearly two hours. Fortunately, first aid was administered to the injured passengers, and the train was able to resume its journey.

Several passengers attributed the incident to what they perceived as a lackadaisical approach by Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel. Some passengers even alleged a possible collusion between the RPF jawans and the robbers.
