Balasore Man Finds Rare Catfish In Pond

Balasore: A fisherman caught a rare variety of fish at Basantpur village in Balasore district on Sunday.

According to sources, Chandan Sen found this flat-headed fish of around 2kg, resembling a Dusky Flathead but with black and white strips, in his net. The shape of its dins is also unique.

He brought it to the village and later informed locals about it.

As the news spread, villagers flocked to Sen’s house to have a look at the fish. The fish has been kept alive.

Informing media persons, Sen said that he won’t be sailing this fish and he will keep this fish in his pond.

The catfish are mostly found in freshwater habitats in the Amazon River in South America, lacking scales and having cat-like whiskers around its mouth.

Meanwhile, the marine experts opined that the riverine fish is assumed to have been migrated to the Odisha coast either due to climate change or in search of food.
