Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate Police arrested three individuals on Wednesday in connection with the alleged loot and gang rape of a woman at her apartment in the Maitri Vihar area. The incident, which occurred during the early hours of Monday, has shocked the city.
According to Twin City Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh, the three accused—identified as Bikash Nayak, Jaga Singh and auto driver Tukuna Nayak—were involved in the crime. The two main accused, Bikash and Jaga have a history of criminal activities and had previously served jail time. After being released on bail, they resumed their criminal pursuits.
The horrifying incident took place when the woman, who was at home with her young daughter, was held at knifepoint by two burglars who entered her apartment. The third accused stayed outside to assist. The criminals reportedly looted her mobile phone and gold earrings before gang-raping her in front of her daughter. They also threatened to kill the child if the woman revealed the crime.
Police investigations revealed that the miscreants had stolen a mobile phone from the victim’s house a day prior and planned the assault after noticing the balcony door was left open. A mobile phone and a knife have been seized from their possession.
Following the victim’s complaint, two of the accused were detained and interrogated by Maitri Vihar Police, leading to the arrests.
