Boudh Ex-Senior Accounts Assistant Convicted In DA Case

Cuttack: The Court of Vigilance Special Judge in Berhampur on Tuesday convicted Samarsen Patra, the former Senior Accounts Assistant (Retired) of the Office of Odisha Agro Industries Corporation Ltd., Boudh in a Disproportionate Assets (DA) Case.

Ex-Senior Accounts Assistant (Retired) Samarsen Patra was charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance in Berhampur Vigilance P.S. Case No.19 dtd.22.06.2004 U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(e) Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 for possession of disproportionate assets to his known sources of income.

The Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Berhampur today convicted Samarsen Patra and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 2 years and to pay fine of Rs.10,000. In default of payment of fine, the convict shall undergo rigorous imprisonment for a further period of 6 months for the offence U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(e) Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, the court further ruled.

Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for stoppage of pension of Patra following his conviction, the Vigilance Directorate said in a press note.

Subash Chandra Swain, Ex-Inspector, Vigilance Berhampur Division had investigated the case and Sri Surendra Panda, Spl. P.P, Vigilance Court, Berhampur conducted the case on behalf of the prosecution.
