Samsung Ordered to Pay ₹68,000 Compensation for Faulty TV in Odisha’s Malkangiri

Malkangiri: The consumer disputes redressal forum in Odisha has directed multinational giant Samsung to compensate a consumer with Rs 68,000. The case, filed at the district consumer disputes redressal forum in Malkangiri, involved lawyer Ram Prasad Patnaik, who purchased a 43-inch TV from a Samsung showroom in March 2019.

The TV malfunctioned within 5-6 months of purchase, prompting Patnaik to return it to the showroom for repairs. Although the device was under warranty for five years, it failed again after 15 days. Despite Patnaik’s repeated attempts to have it repaired or replaced, the showroom failed to address the issue, causing significant inconvenience.

After hearing arguments from both parties, President PK Panda and Member Salam Bano of the consumer forum ruled in favour of Patnaik. Samsung has been ordered to pay a total of Rs 68,700, comprising Rs 50,700 for the TV’s cost, Rs 15,000 as compensation, and Rs 3,000 as a penalty. The payment is to be made to Patnaik by March 30.
