Elderly Woman Raped By Youth In Cuttack; Accused Nabbed

Cuttack: A man was arrested by Twin City Commissionerate Police for allegedly raping an elderly woman in Cuttack.

The accused has been identified as Chhela Sarkar (32) alias Bharat of Pension Lane in the city.

The incident had taken place on the evening of December 12 in Pension Lane under Cantonment police limits.

Addressing a presser here today, Cuttack DCP Pinak Mishra said, “A special team comprising IIC Mahila police station and IIC Cantonment police station under the direct supervision of ACP Zone-II and Special Squad we successfully detected this case and have arrested a 32-year-old youth who has confessed his crime before the police.”

Accused Bharat who was in a state of intoxication on finding the 80-year-old alone in her house had raped her.

The accused was known to the elderly woman and taking advantage of that had managed to get into her house and rape her.

Following reports in the media, the local Corporator lodged a written complaint at the Mahila police station on December 15 in this connection.

Acting on the complaint police conducted an investigation leading to the arrest of the accused.
