Favourable Weather Expected as South Odisha Votes Tomorrow

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast favourable weather conditions for the first-round polling in South Odisha, covering 4 Lok Sabha seats and 28 Assembly segments on Monday. The mercury is expected to hover around 35 degrees Celsius.

According to the IMD, Odisha is likely to witness isolated to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and squally winds until May 16. There’s a possibility of isolated heavy rainfall on May 12-13, particularly in Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati and Ganjam districts.

On May 13, heavy rainfall is forecasted for specific districts including Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Ganjam. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface winds are also expected in various parts of the state during this period.

The IMD further predicts light to moderate rain/thundershowers in coastal Odisha and a few places in the interior districts.

Director of the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, Manorama Mohanty, assured that the rainfall triggered by nor’westers would last for about an hour and would not pose a significant threat. She mentioned that the day temperatures may drop slightly during rainfall.

A yellow warning has been issued for thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface winds in several districts until Monday morning. Heavy rainfall is also expected in certain districts.
