Former Odisha CM Giridhar Gamang, Son & Others Join BRS

Hyderabad: Giridhar Gamang, former Chief Minister of Odisha, joined the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) on Saturday in Hyderabad.

At a function in the state’s capital, Telangana Chief Minister and BRS supremo K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) welcomed him to the party. Along with Gamang, his son Shishir Gamang, former minister Jayaram Pangi, former Congress member of Dhenkanal Naveen Nanda, and NNKS leader Akshay Kumar also joined the BRS.

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), headed by Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, is eyeing to make its political presence felt in south Odisha to prove itself as a national party. Koraput district’s three prominent leaders are all set to join the BRS. They are former State minister Jayaram Pangi, former Chief Minister Giridhar Gomang, and his son Sisir Gomang. As per political grapevine, Giridhar’s wife Hema Gomang may also join this political dream child of Telangana CM.

All these leaders of Odisha hail from the Koraput district, which has a sizeable Telugu-speaking population. BRS hopes to make its presence felt in Odisha through the Telugu-speaking voters.

Gomang, his son, and Pangi had BJP links in the past. Pangi left the BJP to form the Dandakaranya Parvatmala Vikash Parishad. Pangi and Gomango have met KCR regarding their joining the BRS. The father-son duo resigned from the BJP on Wednesday and declared that join the BRS soon.

Former CM Gomang’s son Sisir has recently said BRS is planning to field its candidates in all the 147 Assembly constituencies and 21 Lok Sabha seats in Odisha. BRS has no plans to have any relations with the major parties like BJD, BJP, or Congress in Odisha.

So, it is hoped that the BRS and the Odisha leaders on the verge of joining it may join hands with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Left parties, RJD, SP, and other small regional parties in Odisha.

But the area in focus for the BRS will be five Lok Sabha constituencies in south Odisha that have Telgu voters. They are Koraput, Nabarangur, Aska, Berhampur, and Kandhamal as well as 35 Assembly segments under them.
