Ganjam: Reprimanding the transporters who declined to offer their vehicles for election duties, the Ganjam district administration in Odisha has taken stern action by directing the police to arrest the vehicle owners.
Ganjam collector Dibya Jyoti Parida reportedly issued non-bailable warrants (NBWs) against 21 vehicle owners who refused to provide their vehicles to the administration for election duties, according to official sources.
The administration had requested vehicle owners to rent out their vehicles for transporting polling personnel and materials to various booths ahead of the election date in the district. However, as the owners failed to comply with this directive, the collector issued NBWs and instructed the police to make arrests, as per the sources.
The voting for the Berhampur Lok Sabha constituency and Assembly segments under it is slated for the first phase of elections in the state on May 13.
