Husband Abandons Wife Post-Childbirth in Jajpur Hospital, CWC Issues Warning

Jajpur: A woman and her newborn baby boy were abandoned at a hospital in Jajpur after her husband and in-laws allegedly fled due to an earlier family feud. The incident has sparked outrage and calls for justice for the victim, identified as Dali Mallick.

Dali, a resident of Ghatakula village, had married Chandan Mallick from Nagamatha village in Kendrapara district in 2021.

Admitted to the hospital on January 1, Dali gave birth to a baby boy. However, tensions within the family surfaced, leading Chandan and his relatives to reportedly flee the hospital, leaving Dali and the newborn behind. Jajpur police were notified, and both mother and child were subsequently placed under the care of a one-stop centre with police intervention.

Dali, expressing her ordeal, stated, “After admitting me to the hospital, my husband and in-laws fled away. He often said that he had married another lady and didn’t accept me anymore. I want justice.”

Hospital staff, witnessing Dali’s distress, provided some comfort by offering food and supportive words. Sarada Das, an attendant, emphasized the need for administrative assistance for the helpless woman.

In response to the situation, the police are working towards reconciling the couple through counselling. The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) has vowed to take action against Chandan for neglecting his wife and newborn, leaving them in a vulnerable condition at the hospital.
