IMD Denies Of Cyclone Possibility In Odisha, Advises To Stay Away From Misleading Reports

Bhubaneswar: Amid speculation regarding the formation of Cyclone ‘Sitrang’ over the Bay of Bengal, the India Meteorological Department (IMD)  on Wednesday termed it as a rumour and advised people to stay away from it.

“The IMD hasn’t made any forecast regarding the cyclone. It is scientifically not possible to make any weather-related prediction before seven days of the occurrence,” the Regional Meteorological Centre here of the IMD tweeted.

It went on to advise people not to believe in the rumours that are claiming the possibility of a cyclone in the state.

Notably, the rumours claiming a cyclone in Odisha started making rounds after a high-level preparedness meeting was chaired by the Chief Secretary at Lok Sabha Bhawan on October 10.
