IMD Raises Alerts As Odisha Braces For Intense Heat & Thunderstorms

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for heat wave and thunderstorm occurrences across various regions of Odisha.

Additionally, an orange warning has been issued for thunderstorms, accompanied by lightning and strong surface winds with speeds ranging from 30 to 40 kilometres per hour. These conditions are expected to affect specific areas including South Odisha, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, and Bargarh. The advisory is effective until 08:30 AM tomorrow.

According to IMD forecasts, heat wave conditions will persist in several parts of Odisha, alongside the likelihood of thunderstorm activity in the coming days.

Orange Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 KMPH is very likely 2 to occur at one or two places over the districts of South Odisha, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh.

Heatwave condition is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati.

Day 2 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 22.05.2024to 0830 hrs IST of 23.05.2024)

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Puri, Khorda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Kalahandi. Heatwave condition very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati

Day 3 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 23.05.2024to 0830 hrs IST of 24.05.2024)

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Kalahandi.
