Kalahandi Village Farmers Demand Water From Indravati For Irrigation, Threaten To Launch Strike

Kalahandi: The demand for releasing water from Indravati mega irrigation project has become louder with a group of farmers from Musapali village under Koksara block in Kalahandi district and other areas threatening to intensify their agitation and stage protest

Earlier, a group of farmers too have raised the demand for discharging the water from the mega irrigation project of Indravati, pointing out that the dam holds more water and they are not getting adequate water supply to their farms.

On Wednesday, a group of farmers, led by Sarpanch Akshaya Naik reached the office of the Irrigation Department’s Executive Engineer and threatened to launch a strike if their demands will not be accepted.

Speaking to media persons, Musapalli Sarpanch, Naik said,”Despite repeated complaints, water is not being supplied to the fields from the mega lift pipeline. Due to the negligence of departmental officials, water is not coming from many underground points. As a result, many farmers in Mushpali are facing difficulties in applying canal water to their fields.

“Today farmers have submitted a complaint letter with the Divisional Assistant Engineer to solve the problem within 2 days, otherwise there will be a massive agitation,” Naik added.
