Keonjhar: Truck Owner Ends Life After Failing To Repay Loan

Keonjhar: A truck owner allegedly killed himself after defaulting on the loan he had taken out to buy the vehicle in the Keonjhar district of Odisha.

The truck owner, identified as Mukund Mahakud, an inhabitant of Chhamunda village within the jurisdiction of Telkoi police, was discovered hanging this morning from the vehicle.

According to his family, Mahakud had borrowed money from a private finance company to buy the truck in order to support himself. Due to the closing of mines, he was unable to use his vehicle for transportation. Even his land holdings had to be sold in order to pay back the prior installment. Mahakud reportedly hanged himself to his truck with a rope after becoming frustrated with the load of the loan.

“He was under a lot of mental stress. He had been under pressure from the financing company to repay the loan. He took the drastic action following the end of Dussehra”, according to a local citizen named PrasannaSahu.

According to sources, the OMC mines at Suakati are the primary source of income for the truck owners in Keonjhar. But because there aren’t enough customers for iron ore, the mines are at a standstill. Mahakud had sold his land and borrowed money to pay back the last loan installment. After Dussehra, overburdened by the stress of loan repayment, lead him to end his life.
