Mahadeepa On Shivaratri By 10 Pm At Lingaraj Shrine

Bhubaneswar: Maha Shivaratri, which is known as a reminder of overcoming darkness and ignorance in life, is being observed on Saturday all over Odisha.

They also keep a full-day fast that begins in the morning of the festival and ends the following day after the Mahadeepa gets raised atop the Shiv temple.

The ‘mahadeepa’ of Lord Lingaraj will be lifted atop the temple at 10 pm. While the ‘abakasa’ ritual will be held from 3 am to 3.30 am on the day, it will be followed by Sahana Mela or public darshan from 3.30 am to 11 am.

Expecting a large footfall, the Commissionerate Police will ensure smooth movement of traffic and a hassle-free darshan for devotees. Apart from Sri Lingaraj Temple police arrangements have been made in temples at other 10 police station areas.
