MP Anubhav Mohanty Files Complaint Against Fake Instagram Account Impersonating Him For Seeking Donations

Cuttack: Actor and the current Kendrapada MP Anubhav Mohanty, filed a complaint on Saturday at the Cyber Crime and Economic Offences police station in Cuttack, stating that a fake Instagram account had been created under his name by a scammer.

The parliamentarian claimed in his complaint that the scammer is using that social networking site to solicit money. About 94,000 people follow the fraudster’s bogus account.

“The fake account has also blocked my account so that I cannot see any nefarious activities. Some of my fans and followers have been cheated. Such fake accounts are also on Facebook too,” the complaint read.

Additionally, the MP asked the authorities to prosecute the fraudster harshly.

“I request to take strict action against wrongdoers and block the account immediately so that such fake donation campaign doesn’t run longer. I also request to take some exemplary actions against them so that it’s not repeated or done by anyone else in future,” further read the complaint.

Notably, the state has seen an increase in incidents where cybercriminals have formed phoney social media profiles using the names of well-known people in order to steal money.
