Spurious Liquor Seized in Odisha’s Cuttack; 3 Arrested in Bar Raid

Cuttack: The Odisha Excise Department conducted a significant operation today, seizing a large quantity of spurious liquor from a bar in Cuttack district.

A team of 10 officials from the Cuttack Excise raided S R Bar, situated in the Nischintakoili market along the Cuttack-Kendrapara Road, uncovering not only illicit liquor but also caps and stickers intended for bottling.

Three individuals were detained during the raid as part of the ongoing efforts to combat the illegal production and sale of illicit liquor, particularly following a recent hooch tragedy in Ganjam district that resulted in five fatalities last month.

In an alarming incident on August 19, 20 individuals from the Chikiti area were hospitalised after consuming country-made liquor sold near Maoundpur village, with five succumbing to the harmful effects of the toxic concoction.

The Excise Department’s crackdown is a response to such incidents, aiming to ensure public safety across the state.
