Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government has taken a significant step to improve the livelihoods of workers by raising the minimum wage. The government on Wednesday announced a Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA) of Rs 7.00 per day, which will come into effect from October 1, 2023.
This increase in the minimum wage applies to workers across various categories, including unskilled, semi-skilled, skilled, and highly skilled employees, encompassing a total of 89 scheduled employments.
Dr. N. Thirumala Naik, the Labour Commissioner of Odisha, issued an official notification regarding this wage hike. The notification states that the Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA) of Rs 7.00 per day (after rounding off) will be in addition to the existing minimum rate of wages.
As of October 1, 2023, the revised minimum wage, inclusive of the Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA), will be applicable as follows:
