Odisha Police Tightens Security, Mandates Permissions for Post-Election Victory Processions

Bhubaneswar: In a bid to ensure law and order following the announcement of dual election results on Tuesday, the Odisha Police has mandated prior permission for any victory processions.

Director General of Police (DGP) Arun Sarangi emphasised strict adherence to the Election Commission of India’s guidelines during a media briefing on Monday.

To maintain peace at the 69 counting centres statewide, one company of Central forces is deployed at each site, with two companies stationed in sensitive areas. Additionally, the State Armed Police has assigned one to two companies per counting centre. District Superintendents of Police (SPs) will also utilize local resources to bolster security.

DGP Sarangi highlighted the need for prior approval for public announcement systems and firecrackers during victory celebrations. The police have implemented extensive measures to avert violence post-elections. Anticipating unrest in Ganjam district, approximately 120 individuals with criminal backgrounds have been detained. District authorities are instructed to respond swiftly and firmly to any incidents of violence.
