Odisha to Launch Crackdown on Vehicles Without HSRP Starting June 23

Bhubaneswar: The State Transport Authority in Odisha is set to launch a special initiative on June 23rd to identify vehicles that do not have the High-Security Registration Plate (HSRP) installed. Penalties will be imposed on the owners of these vehicles, according to reliable sources.

The deadline for attaching the HSRP on old vehicles registered before April 1, 2019, and carrying an Odisha Registration number, has already passed on February 28, 2023.

It has come to the attention of the authorities that certain vehicles continue to operate without the necessary HSRP. Therefore, the State Transport Authority in Odisha will be conducting a dedicated campaign starting from June 23, 2023, specifically aimed at identifying and penalizing such vehicles that lack the HSRP.

An official statement emphasized the need for vehicle owners to promptly adhere to the affixation of the HSRP to avoid penalties.

As of June 7, 2023, a total of 4,093,608 vehicle owners have booked slots for HSRP installation, with 3,587,577 vehicles already having the HSRP affixed.

Lalmohan Sethi, the Additional Commissioner of Transport (Road Safety & Enforcement) in Odisha, advised vehicle owners to prioritize the timely attachment of the HSRP to prevent penalties. Any vehicles found to be operating without the HSRP will be subject to fines of either Rs 5,000 or Rs 10,000 under Section 192 of the MV Act, 1988, as stated by Sethi.
