PM Modi Recalls Memories of His Mother While Enjoying ‘Khiri’ on Birthday with Tribal Family in Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday participated in the ‘Gruha Prabesha’ ceremony of PM Awas Yojana beneficiaries in Bhubaneswar’s Gadakana village. It also happened to be the 74th birthday of PM Modi and to mark the occasion, he was served the traditional Odia delicacy, ‘Khiri’, at the home of a tribal family.
The sweet dish was prepared by Sadhabi Naik, daughter-in-law of Antaryami Naik, in an earthen pot, following the Odia custom of offering ‘Khiri’ during housewarming ceremonies. Both PM Modi and Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi enjoyed the dessert, with the Prime Minister expressing his appreciation for the dish.
Sadhabi and her family were overjoyed by the Prime Minister’s visit. “It was an honour to serve ‘Khiri’ to PM Modi on his birthday.
He praised the dish, calling it delicious,” she shared. PM Modi also took the time to interact with her children and posed for photographs.
During his address at Janata Maidan, PM Modi recounted the experience, mentioning how the moment reminded him of his late mother, who used to feed him jaggery on his birthday. He referred to Sadhabi as his “Adivasi mother,” expressing gratitude for her hospitality.
PM Modi also offered prayers to Lord Jagannath at the Naik family home and spoke with other PM Awas Yojana beneficiaries, highlighting the success of the housing initiative.
