Puri Train Derailment: Three Wagons Derailed, No Casualties Reported

Puri: The Puri-Howrah express saw up to three wagons derailed while in motion on Saturday evening near Malatipatapur station close to Puri.

There were no passengers in the coach at the time of the accident, sources claim. The train was delayed as a result of the derailment.

“An empty rake was on its way to Puri station. However, two coaches got derailed. No extensive damage was done and everything will fall in place soon,” informed Rinkesh Ray, DRM, Khordha.

In the meantime, the passengers at Puri Station who were waiting to board the train expressed displeasure about the sudden delay of the train. Howrah was the destination of the train.

“We were supposed to arrive in Kanpur, but the derailment has left us waiting more than an hour. The train’s impending arrival is repeatedly proclaimed at the station, yet it is nowhere to be found. Even they are not saying whether the train would arrive or not,” a passenger complained.

While this was going on, another passenger remarked, “Even though they have informed us that the train is delayed, we are not being informed of the precise time of train arrival. There is no place to sit on the platform, so we are struggling to carry our kids and our big bags.”

Two trains were forced to be rescheduled as a result of the empty coaching rake derailing.
