‘Rangabati’ Singer Padma Shri Jitendra Haripal Hospitalised

Sambalpur: Padma Shri Jitendra Haripal, the renowned Odia folksinger known for his soulful voice and the superhit song ‘Rangabati,’ has been admitted to a private hospital in Sambalpur, Odisha.

Reports suggest that Haripal was rushed to the hospital late Monday night complaining of acute body pain. A team of doctors is currently monitoring his condition. While the exact diagnosis is pending, doctors have suggested the possibility of surgery.

Haripal’s powerful vocals in the iconic Sambalpuri song ‘Rangabati,’ a duet with Krishna Patel, cemented his place in Odia households. Throughout his career, he has captivated audiences with over 1000 songs, solidifying his position as a leading exponent of Sambalpuri folk music.

In recognition of his invaluable contribution to Indian music, Haripal was bestowed with the prestigious Padma Shri award in 2017, the fourth-highest civilian honour in the country.
