Rebel Ex-MLA Rajendra Das Expelled From BJD Ahead Of Dhamnagar Bypoll

Bhubaneswar: Former Dhamnagar Biju Janta Dal (BJD) MLA Rajendra Das has been expelled from the conch party on Wednesday on charges of antiparty activities.

The decision came after Das filed his nomination for the Dhamnagar by-poll as an independent candidate.

“Sri Rajendra Kumar Das, EX-MLA of Biju Janta Dal, Dhamnagar Assembly Constituency, District- Bhadrak has been expelled from the Party for his antiparty activities by Shri Naveen Patnaik, President, Biju Janata Dal,” an order issued by the BJD read.

Notably, the ruling BJD has announced Abanti Das’s name as its candidate for the by-poll.

While BJP candidate Suryavanshi Suraj Sthitaprajna filed his nomination, Congress announced Baba Harekrushna Sethi as its candidate.

The bypoll will be held on November 3 (Thursday). The counting of votes will take place on November 6 (Sunday).

The seat of Dhamnagar is lying vacant since September 19 following the demise of BJP MLA Bishnu Charan Sethi, who passed away while undergoing treatment at the AIIMS Bhubaneswar.
