Secondary Schools In Odisha To Have School Clubs From 2023-24 Academic Year

Bhubaneswar: Aimed at enabling optimum utilisation of students’ potential to build aspirations, in-a first, School Clubs will be introduced in all secondary schools of Odisha from the academic year 2023-24.

These clubs will supplement the newly introduced aspirational curriculum of the state government and it will help students in providing personalized learning experience, said an official press release issued here today.

The introduction of club system will also offer a platform for students to pursue their interests and hobbies beyond the classroom. The suggestive names of the clubs are Sahitya Srujani, Jigyansa, Kaushali and Kridangan.

Each club will be led by students and mentors will be designated for every club to guide students in organising various activities.

In collaboration with Odia Language, Literature and Culture Department, Department of Sports, Odisha Biodiversity Board, Odisha Bigyan Academy, Regional Science Centre, Institute of Mathematics, UNICEF, Intel Corporation, Learning Links Foundation, Quest Alliance, Raspberry Pi Foundation and British Council, Mo School will roll out club activities in all transformed high schools of the state.

Chairing the 39th Executive Council meeting of Mo School Abhiyan, Aswathy S., Commissioner-cum-Secretary stressed on smooth implementation of club system and re-introduction of Student Cabinets in all elementary schools with support from alumni members.

The transformation of the school cabinet will facilitate collaborative and interactive learning for students by providing opportunities for learning by doing. By using its vibrant alumni network, Mo School will work towards developing communication skills, a sense of responsibility and other social skills among students.

Proposals worth ₹96.53 crores from 27 districts have been approved in the Executive Council. Within the past two months, 10,931 alumni have joined hands with Mo School Abhiyan and have contributed ₹6.85 crores for the development of their alma mater.

Mo School Abhiyan has received grants worth ₹25.05 crore from various CSR funds. Coupled with the donors’ contribution, CSR funds and a 2X matching grant from the state government, the Executive Council has approved projects worth ₹ 96.53 crores which will be availed in the development of the 2513 primary, upper primary and high schools across the state.

The alumni have contributed ₹1.71 crore in Balasore, ₹82 lakh in Jajpur, ₹73 lakh in Ganjam, ₹53 lakh in Cuttack and ₹47 lakhs in Jagatsinghpur districts respectively. Till date, 7.82 lakh alumni members have contributed financially under Mo School Abhiyan.

The meeting also witnessed the presence of the Additional Secretary, S&ME Department, Financial Advisor, S&ME Department, Director, Secondary Education, Director, Elementary Education, Director, TE & SCERT, COO, Mo School and OSD, Mo School.
