Puri: Just a day before the much-anticipated launch of the Odisha government’s Subhadra Yojana, instances of fraudulent activity have surfaced, causing concern among potential beneficiaries. In a recent incident in the Nimapara area of Puri district, a woman lost over ₹12,000 to a scammer posing as a representative of the scheme.
Lewis Swain, a resident of the Dhalesor panchayat, received a call claiming that the first installment of the Subhadra Yojana had been deposited into her bank account. The fraudster sent her a link, instructing her to click on it. Upon doing so, ₹12,000 was instantly debited from her account. Following the incident, her husband, Jitendra Kumar Swain, lodged a complaint with the Cyber Police Station in Nimapara.
Responding to such incidents, Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida clarified that the Odisha Government will not send any links or make calls to the beneficiaries. The funds under the scheme will be directly credited to beneficiaries’ bank accounts. She further mentioned that 65 lakh women have registered for the scheme so far.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to launch the ‘SUBHADRA’ Yojana on September 17 during his visit to Odisha.
