The water is drained through the 34 gates of Hirakud, the river is flooded

Bhubaneswar: Low-pressure planting is bringing floods. Due to heavy rains in Chhattisgarh, the water level of Hirakud Reservoir is increasing. Therefore, the chief engineer of the water resources department has informed that the river is getting flooded due to the water being drained through 34 gates. It has been informed that 6 lakh cusecs of water will reach Mundulhi by Sunday morning.

However, it has been reported that floodwaters have entered the lower reaches of the river. The administration is alerting the people through phone calls as the river is swelling. It is even planned to relocate people where necessary.

Currently, 4.66 thousand cusecs of water are entering the Hirakud reservoir, while 5 lakh cusecs of water are being discharged. 20 gates were opened on Friday while 14 more gates were opened on Saturday. On the other hand, due to the rain and flood situation in Chhattisgarh, the Odisha government has been asked to open more gates to Hirakud Dam. However, the head of the water resources department said that the decision to open the gate will be taken after seeing the situation.

The Chief Minister said that the government is responsible for the current situation in Chhattisgarh. He said that such a situation has arisen due to the construction of Malmal Barrage. On the other hand, the water level is also increasing in Baitarani, Brahmani, Jalka, Devi, Bubhabalang and Subaranrekha. The Special Relief Commissioner has ordered the District Magistrates to be vigilant.
