Three Students Jolted By Lightning Strike While Attending Online Class

Kandhamal: In yet another lightning strike mishap reported from the state, on Wednesday, three students were struck by a lightning strike when they had gone to the top of a mound to attend their online class due to bad cellular service in their village.

According to reports, three children identified as Dhiren Digal, Pinku Mallick, and Pancha Behera of Mundagaon village in Kandhamal district’s Chakapada block had gone atop a nearby hill to attend their online classes.

They sought shelter under a tree when it began to rain. Lightning struck them unexpectedly and as a result of it, they fell unconscious. Upon regaining consciousness, one of the students called his brother. On receiving the information from him, Villagers rushed to the hill and rescued them.

The children were initially admitted to the Brahmanapad Community Health Centre before being transferred to the District Headquarters Hospital in Phulbani. All three students were reported to be safe and recovering.
