Trash Collection Bikes To Be Deployed In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: In a bid to keep the city clean and hygienic, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to reach out to the cornered areas of the Capital city including slums of the city which do not have proper road connectivity through motorcycles to gather trash.

Three-wheeler and four-wheeler garbage collection vans are unable to reach various places in Old Bhubaneswar and the slums. A top BMC official stated that special bikes will be used to gather trash in certain regions.

Since bikes have better mobility than the currently-in-use trash collecting vans; they can easily access the inner areas.

The decision was taken after a meeting on Friday regarding garbage management.

As a test initiative, this service will start in the Old Bhubaneswar locality. According to the official, it will subsequently be applied in further regions that light garbage vehicles cannot access.

Approximately 300 vehicles, including 275 trash collection vans used by the local body for door-to-door waste collection, have just been equipped with 4G GPS trackers, according to a recent announcement by BMC.
