Tusker Found Dead In Karlapat Sanctuary

Bhawanipatna: A tusker has been found dead in the Karlapat Wildlife Sanctuary in the Kalahandi district.

As per reports, the carcass of the pachyderm was found in the Ghusurigudi forest in the Tentulipadar area of the sanctuary.

Forest officials have said that the tusker was killed in a fight with another elephant four days back.

During the past three years, 245 elephants have died in Odisha. This was informed by state Forest & Environment Minister Pradip Kumar Amat in the Odisha Assembly recently.

As per the minister, out of the 245 dead elephants, only six were killed by poachers. It means only 2.45 per cent of the total elephant deaths in the state was because of poaching.

State Forest & Environment Minister further stated that no tiger died in the state during the last three years.

In the last three years, 47 persons were arrested for their involvement in elephant killing, smuggling tusks, and tiger hides, said the minister. Amat.  As many as 39 tusks, one tiger skin, and nine tiger nails were recovered from the possession of the arrested accused, the minister added.
