Vigilance Apprehends Forester With Rs 13.85 Lakh In Cash

Nuapada: The Vigilance sleuths on Thursday arrested a Forester with a huge amount of cash. The accused Forester has been identified as Ghanashyam Sabar.

According to Vigilance officials, Sabar, a forester in Komna Section under Khariar forest division in Nuapada district, has been booked under Sections 13(2) and 13(1)(b) of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.

The anti-corruption agency, based on a tip-off, intercepted Sabar with Rs 5.05 lakh while he was going to Khariar town on his motorcycle.

Sabar could not account for the cash satisfactorily, the Vigilance said. Following this, searches were launched on his quarter and other locations which led to the discovery of Rs 8 lakh in cash. Rs 80,000 was recovered from his office table drawer during the search.

All total, cash recovered and seized, in this case, was Rs 13.85 lakh, which the forester could not account for satisfactorily. He was forwarded to the court today, the Vigilance added.
