Woman Beaten To Death On Suspicion Of Practicing Witchcraft In Ganjam

Ganjam: A woman was allegedly beaten to death by locals on the suspicion of practicing sorcery at Madhiapalli in Kabisurya Nagar in Ganjam district.

The deceased woman has been identified as Jhunu Nahak of the same locality.

According to reports, villagers thrashed four persons suspecting them of practicing sorcery on Wednesday.

The severely injured victims were later rushed to hospital for treatment.

Jhunu, the wife of one of the injured, went to the police station to file a complaint in this regard.

Flowing the incident, villagers barged into Jhunu’s house and attacked her family. Subsequently, Jhunu died on the spot.

Meanwhile, police have detained as many as 50 women, some men from the village in this connection and sent the body for autopsy, and registered a case of murder.

Two platoons of police personnel have been deployed at the village to maintain law and order situation.
