Woman Maoist Encountered In Kandhamal Forest

Phulbani: A female Maoist was shot and killed in an encounter with a joint team of Special Operations Group (SOG) and District Voluntary Force (DVF) in Kandhamal district’s Sindhi forested area which comes under Baliguda police’s jurisdiction, the Kandhamal police claimed on Tuesday.

This is the state’s first Maoist encounter this year.

According to reports, there were around 20 Maoists present in the camp when the firefight took place. As a result of this fiery exchange, a female Maoist was killed.

The deceased Maoist is yet to be identified. Police seized a gun and other analogous weapons and supplies from her possession.

With inputs from reliable sources, the Kandhamal district police were made aware of the existence of a Maoist camp in the Sindhi Forest. Consequently, a search operation was launched.

“Based on a particular intelligence, our teams of SOG and DVF jawans attacked a Maoist camp in the forest within the Baliguda police station limits.” “There was an exchange of fire, and the body of a Maoist woman was discovered,” stated IG (operations) Amitabh Thakur.
