Congress Internal Tumult: Uncertainty Over Rajasthan CM Post Rises

Uncertainty reigned over the Rajasthan CM spot on Thursday after Ashok Gehlot said that Congress head Sonia Gandhi would take the final call on whether he would continue as the CM or not.

Rajasthan: As the congress tried to present a united front after an unprecedented uprising exposed significant disaccord, uncertainty reigned over the Rajasthan CM spot on Thursday after Ashok Gehlot said that Congress head Sonia Gandhi would take the final call on whether he would continue as the CM of the state or not.

Apart from the independents and other parties, Gehlot has the support of the vast majority of the party’s legislators in Rajasthan. When they disobeyed the wishes of the central leadership on Sunday evening, members of the Congress who were close to him numbered 92 (the majority mark in the state assembly is 101).

Gehlot’s former deputy, Sachin Pilot, met Sonia Gandhi late on Thursday in Delhi and afterward remarked that the party needed cooperation to win the 2023 state elections. Pilot has attempted to stake claim to the position of the CM in the past without success.

Even as he delivered an apology for the revolt by the MLAs loyal to him over the weekend, Gehlot met Sonia earlier in the day at her residence and asserted that she would decide on his chief ministership.

However, it will be very tough to oust the veteran leader from the top spot as he is supported by a sizeable majority of the party’s legislative branch.
