Mallikarjun Kharge Quits As Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha

Moments after filing his nomination for the party’s presidential poll, Mallikarjun Kharge resigned as the Leader of Opposition (LoP) on Friday.

New Delhi: Moments after filing his nomination for the party’s presidential poll, Mallikarjun Kharge resigned as the Leader of Opposition (LoP) on Friday. This comes in line with the party’s one-person, one-post principle.

P Chidambaram and Digvijay Singh are supposedly in line to succeed Kharge as the LoP.

Mallikarjun Kharge, Shashi Tharoor, and KN Tripathi submitted their nominations for the Congress presidential election on Friday.

Prithviraj Chavan, Manish Tewari, and Bhupinder Hooda, leaders of the G-23 have already declared their support for Mallikarjun Kharge’s bid for the party’s presidency.

Meanwhile, Digvijay Singh, who had previously been running for the top spot, declared himself out of the race after Kharge’s entry.
