All Bowlers Were Disciplined, And Result Was Seen: Mohammed Shami

India defeated New Zealand by eight wickets in the second one-day international at Raipur on January 22, taking a 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

India pacer Mohammed Shami who picked up a three-wicket haul said that the Men in Blue are taking it one match at a time and have been performing well in the last few years.

“See, I don’t think people have doubt over the Indian team. We have been giving good results in past 4-6 years. We have a lot of time left for the World Cup. We have many series for match practice. We have more time to know players. We have time so it’s better to take it match-to-match,” Shami said in the post-match press conference.

Speaking about the conditions, the 32-year-old said that it was a damp wicket and not bowler friendly.

“Conditions were not as helpful to the bowlers as it may have appeared. They got out early but conditions were not overtly bowler-friendly. We dismissed them cheaply by bowling a testing length. It was a damp wicket but it was important to keep good line and length. All the bowlers were disciplined, and the result is for all to see.”

The pacer added that the workload of players is being managed well.

“I always like playing matches. I feel it is better than practice because your reality is visible there. So, it is better to play as many matches as you can ahead of a big tournament. Obviously, everyone’s workload is being managed and is being managed very well. I am hoping the main players and seniors stay in a good zone and setup ahead of the big tournaments.”

Speaking about the absence of senior players, especially Jasprit Bumrah, Shami said: The absence of good players is always felt. But if a player gets injured, the game doesn’t stop. We do miss him (Bumrah) because he is a good bowler. We are hopeful that he returns soon so that the team gets even stronger. He is working on his fitness, and we are waiting for him to join the Indian team and complete the setup.”
