A Bangladeshi cricket fan, Rabiul Islam, also known as Tiger Robby, who fainted at Green Park Stadium during the first day of the second Test match between India and Bangladesh, has been diagnosed with lung cancer, medical authorities have confirmed.
Islam collapsed due to low oxygen levels linked to his pre-existing lung condition. He was treated at Regency Hospital and discharged after stabilisation.
Harish Chandra, the additional commissioner of police (law and order), clarified that Islam’s fainting was due to his illness, denying reports of deportation. “He had a 12-day medical visa expiring on September 29, and we offered full assistance for his return to Dhaka,” Chandra stated.
Islam, who entered India via Kolkata on September 18, was in Chennai for the first Test before travelling to Kanpur for the second match.
Controversy arose when Islam initially alleged that he had been assaulted by spectators, leading to his collapse. However, he later retracted the claim, releasing a video denying any assault.
