BCCI President Drops Big Hint on Post-Dravid Era for Indian Cricket

India clinched their second T20 World Cup trophy by defeating South Africa by seven runs in the final. This victory also marks the end of head coach Rahul Dravid’s tenure. BCCI President Roger Binny praised the team’s triumph and suggested that former opener Gautam Gambhir could be a strong candidate for the next head coach role.

Gambhir, who has expressed interest in the role, is being considered, with support from many former cricketers. Binny stressed the need for a coach with experience across all formats, highlighting Gambhir’s qualifications.

Following the match, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announced their retirement from T20 internationals. Binny acknowledged the challenge of replacing these key players but remained optimistic about finding young talent through the IPL.

Under Dravid’s leadership, Team India reached the finals of both the ODI World Cup and the 2023 World Test Championship, losing to Australia in both events. However, their T20 World Cup victory ended an 11-year ICC title drought, showcasing the team’s unity and strategic planning.

Binny commended Dravid’s contributions and recognised the impact of his experience on the team’s progress.
