Bowling Shami At Death Was Always The Plan: Rohit Sharma

Brisbane: India beat Australia in a high-scoring warm-up match at The Gabba today. After posting a total of 186/7, India held their nerve and restricted Australia to 180 to win the contest by six runs.

After the match, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma said:

“Overall, it was a good game. We batted well, towards the end we could have added 10-15 more. We wanted to stay till the end, which Surya did. It was a good pitch where you could trust the bounce which our batters did. You have to be smart while playing with big boundaries. Getting them is important but getting singles and twos to accumulate 8-9 (runs) in an over is just as key. We have focused on that since Perth,” said Rohit in the post-match presentation ceremony.

Pacer Mohammed Shami did a great job for India, conceding only 4 runs, and picking up three wickets in the final over of the match. Rohit stated that bowling Shami in the closing stages of the match was the plan.

“We need to improve at the death. We need to change lengths and tactics. Sometimes hitting the deck is a good option. It was a good pitch and their batting put pressure on us. Bowling Shami at the death was always the plan and you saw what he did,” added Rohit.
