Guyana: India captain Rohit Sharma lauded spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel for their outstanding performance in the T20 World Cup semi-final against England in Guyana.
The left-arm duo played a crucial role in India’s convincing victory, propelling the team to their first T20 World Cup final in a decade.
Axar Patel struck early, dismissing England captain Jos Buttler (23) with a well-flighted delivery that caught the batsman off-guard. Patel’s 3/23 and Kuldeep’s 3/19 dismantled the English batting lineup, restricting them to a mere 103 in 16.4 overs.
Rohit revealed the team’s strategy: “We aimed to keep the stumps in play and adapt to the challenging conditions,” he explained in the post-match interview. The Indian skipper emphasized the importance of reading the pitch, which exhibited variable bounce throughout the match.
Batting first, India posted a competitive 171/7, thanks to a crucial 73-run partnership between Rohit and Suryakumar Yadav. This total proved insurmountable for England on a tricky surface that favoured spin bowling.
The victory sets up an exciting final between two unbeaten teams, India and South Africa, scheduled for Saturday in Barbados.
