Justin Sammons Named Head Coach of Zimbabwe’s Men’s Cricket Team

Harare: Zimbabwe Cricket has named South African Justin Sammons as the new head coach for its men’s national team.

Sammons, who previously served as a batting coach for South Africa’s national team takes over from Dave Houghton. Houghton resigned last year following Zimbabwe’s failure to qualify for the ongoing Twenty20 World Cup in the US and West Indies.

Sammons’ first assignment will be leading Zimbabwe in a five-match T20I series against India, starting on July 6 in Harare, where all matches will be held.

Joining Sammons is Dion Ebrahim, a former Zimbabwean batter, as assistant coach. Ebrahim has an extensive background, having represented Zimbabwe in 29 Tests and 82 ODIs from 2001 to 2005, and served on the coaching staff of the New Zealand senior men’s team.

“We are delighted to confirm Justin as head coach of the Zimbabwe senior men’s national team. He brings a wealth of coaching experience and a reputation for identifying, nurturing, and developing top young talent in South Africa,” said Zimbabwe Cricket chairman Tavengwa Mukuhlani.
