FIR Filed Against Protesters as Security Enhanced for India-Bangladesh Test in Kanpur

Kanpur: Elaborate security measures have been put in place for the second India-Bangladesh Test match at the International Green Park Stadium in Kanpur, set to take place on September 27, a senior official stated on Tuesday.

The police have registered an FIR against 20 members of the Akhil Bhartiya Hindu Mahasabha for allegedly blocking the road outside the stadium while conducting a ‘havan’ to protest against the reported persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh, according to ACP Harish Chander.

Cops have devised a “fool-proof” security plan for both teams, who are expected to arrive by Tuesday evening. Kanpur’s Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), Harish Chander, confirmed that they have requested the deployment of adequate police personnel, including senior officers, for the match.

“We are thoroughly assessing the security arrangements and are confident about securing sufficient police presence for the event,” Chander said, adding that coordination with central and state agencies, including the Intelligence Bureau (IB), is underway to handle any potential threats.

DCP (East) Shrawan Kumar Singh, the nodal officer for the event, explained that the Green Park Stadium and Hotel Landmark have been divided into sectors, zones, and sub-zones, each overseen by DCP, additional DCP, and ACP-ranked officials. Traffic diversions have also been implemented in preparation for the match.

The FIR named individuals including Rakesh Mishra, Vikas Gupta, Prashant Dheer, and Ajay Rathore, among others. The charges include unlawful assembly, rioting and obstruction of public ways under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
