Chennai: Double Olympic medalist Manu Bhaker reportedly exited an event in Chennai on Wednesday after a reporter asked her mother about a viral video featuring Bhaker and javelin star Neeraj Chopra at the Paris Olympics 2024. The 22-year-old shooter was attending a felicitation ceremony at Velammal Nexus School, Chennai.
Earlier this month, two videos from Paris gained significant attention on social media. The first video showed Neeraj Chopra chatting with Manu Bhaker, while the second captured a conversation between Chopra and Bhaker’s mother, Sumedha Bhaker.
In the second clip, Sumedha was seen holding Chopra’s hand during their animated discussion, leading many online users to humorously speculate about a potential match between the two athletes. The video has garnered over a million views on X (formerly Twitter).
At the Chennai event, Bhaker answered several questions from the press. However, when a reporter asked her mother about her conversation with Chopra, Bhaker decided to leave the event.
This incident occurred shortly after another journalist inquired about Bhaker’s views on wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification and the CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport) verdict, which some have claimed to be politically influenced.
Manu Bhaker’s father, Ram Kishan Bhaker, recently stated that she is “still too young” and that the family is “not thinking of her marriage” at this time.
Manu Bhaker made history at the Paris Olympics 2024 by becoming the first Indian athlete post-Independence to win two medals in a single edition of the Olympics. Meanwhile, Neeraj Chopra secured a silver medal in men’s javelin, following his gold win at the Tokyo Olympics.
