WATCH: Rohit Sharma Eats Soil from Pitch After T20 World Cup Win

Barbados: Indian captain Rohit Sharma capped off his illustrious T20I career with a World Cup victory, leading his team to a nail-biting seven-run win over South Africa in the final on Saturday. In a now-viral moment, Sharma commemorated the historic win with a unique gesture – consuming a speck of sand from the Kensington Oval pitch, reminiscent of tennis legend Novak Djokovic who famously ate a blade of grass after a Wimbledon triumph.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) shared the clip on their official Instagram account, sparking comparisons between the two sporting icons.

Earlier, another heartwarming moment captured the internet’s attention. A video showed Sharma planting a kiss on an emotional Hardik Pandya’s cheek during the post-match celebrations. Pandya was addressing the media when the skipper’s affectionate gesture took place.

This victory marked the culmination of Sharma’s T20I journey, as he announced his retirement from the format following the World Cup win. Having debuted in the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2007 against England, Sharma went on to represent India in a staggering 159 T20I matches, amassing a remarkable 4231 runs.
