Satwik-Chirag Win French Open Men’s Double Title

Paris: In the men’s doubles final on Sunday, the renowned Indian team of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty defeated Chinese Taipei’s Lu Ching Yao and Yang Po Han in straight games to win the French Open Super 750 championship.

In the 48-minute final, the eighth-ranked team Lu and Yang outdid the 25th-ranked Lu and Yang 21-13, 21-19.

The 2019 runners-up Satwik and Chirag continued their unbeaten streak this year, winning the Indian Open super 500, the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games, the Thomas Cup, and the bronze at the World Championships.

After winning the 2019 Thailand Open and the 2022 Indian Open, the Indian pair marked their third world tour championship in the French Open. Satwik and Chirag are now the first Indian team to triumph in a Super 750 competition.

In the final match against Lu and Yang, the Indian duo demonstrated their tactical prowess. Satwik and Chirag jumped off to a quick 5-0 lead and never let their rivals get close. The Indians led by six points at the halfway stage.

Before Chirag won the first game on his first opportunity, Satwik and Chirag controlled the frantic rallies and secured seven game points.

However, the Taipei team appeared competitive in the second game, but Satwik and Chirag once more took a six-point lead at the half. As they gained momentum, Lu and Yang reduced the gap to 10–12 points.

The Indians, on the other hand, came back in time, at 19-19, thanks to a fortunate net chord. Satwik put an end to it with an offensive return as the Indians made their move to claim one match point.
