Spin Twins Ashwin-Jadeja Make Significant Jumps In Latest ICC Test Rankings

Bhubaneswar: The erstwhile top-ranked Test side in the world, Australia, suffered an innings defeat at the hands of India, thanks to brilliant performances from spin twins Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja last week in Nagpur. Their performances are mirrored in the most recent ICC Test Bowler Rankings, where they have gained significantly.

With match figures of 8/79, Ashwin finished as the game’s leading wicket-taker. His five-wicket haul in Australia’s second innings was the 31st of his Test career. As a result, he moved up to the 2nd spot in the rankings and is now only 21 rating points behind Australia’s Pat Cummins, the fast bowler who is the current world number 1.

Jadeja played well both with the ball and the bat, turning up a solid all-around effort despite the Nagpur Test being his first international encounter following a protracted injury layoff.

After electing to bat first, Australia were skittled for 177 on the opening day of the series opener thanks to the left-arm spinner Jadeja’s 5/47.

Jadeja then contributed 2/34 to Australia’s second innings, which came to a conclusion with only 91 runs scored in a single session.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma scored the lone century from either side during the match, which was also quite fruitful for him. He made 120 in India’s 400-all out, moving him up to eighth place in the most recent ICC Test rankings for batsmen.
