T20 World Cup 2022: Bangladesh Beat Zimbabwe In Crunch Encounter

Brisbane: In a nerve-rattling encounter at the T20 World Cup 2022, Bangladesh held their calm to beat Zimbabwe by 3 runs in the penultimate ball of the match, securing their second win of the tournament.

Shakib Al Hassan, the Bangladeshi skipper, in order to get their run-rate adjusted, opted to bat first after winning the toss. However, the Bangladeshis were off to a slower start owing to two early wickets.

Meanwhile, Najmul Hossain Shanto and the skipper put together a 54-run stand to get the team back in the game. Shanto kept the scoreboard ticking and got to a well-deserved half-ton, even though the men in green lost Shakib with the score standing at 86.

A cameo from Afif Hossain elevated the Bangladeshi score to 150 runs in their 20 overs, with the opener, Shanto scoring 71 of them.

Chasing 151, Zimbabwe got off to a very poor start as the Bangladeshi bowlers tore through their batting lineup, leaving the Chevrons reeling at 35/4.

Sean Williams, however, tried his best to hold the innings together, scoring a fighting 64 off 42, keeping Zimbabwe in the hunt till the very end.

With 16 required off the last over, the ball was handed over to Mosaddek Hossain by the Bong skipper. Hossain picket the wicket of Brad Evan in the second ball of the over with Zimbabwe still needing 15 of the remaining 4 balls. Richard Ngarava came out all guns blazing and smashed a boundary and a six off the next 2 balls to keep things interesting before being stumped out the very next ball.

However, with 5 required off 1 ball, some late drama unfolded at the venue as Nurul Hasan in an attempt to stump Muzarabani out and claim victory, collected the ball in front of the stumps, yielding the ball to be a no-ball.

Nonetheless, Hossain held his calm and bowled a dot ball to make Bangladesh win the thrilling clash.
