Women’s Asia Cup 2022: Dominant India Defeat B’desh By 59 Runs

Sylhet: India defeated Bangladesh by 59 runs in their third group-stage match in the Women’s Asia Cup, on Saturday.

Choosing to bat, India managed a par score of 159 or 5. Shafali Verma hit a quickfire 55 off 44 balls, and in-form Jemimah Rodrigues used the long handle to great effect with an unbeaten 35. While Jemimah and Deepti Sharma (10) added 29 runs in only 2.3 overs, Shafali and replacement skipper Smriti Mandhana (47 off 38 balls) combined 96 for the opening stand. After that, the Indian bowlers successfully held off the opposition, reducing them to 100 for 7.

Fargana Hoque scored 30 while Captain Nigar Sultana scored 36 to lead the team.

Shafali Verma and Deepti Sharma each took two wickets for India, handing the women in blue a comfortable victory against the Bangladeshis.
