India’s Internet Subscribers Hit 93.6 Cr, Telephone Users Surpass 119 Cr: TRAI

New Delhi: India’s internet landscape witnessed steady growth by the end of December 2023, with the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) reporting a growth in internet subscribers to 936.16 million. This marks a 1.96% quarterly increase from 918.19 million in September. Of this figure, wired internet subscribers stand at 38.57 million, while wireless subscribers dominate at 897.59 million.

The subscriber base comprises 904.54 million broadband users and 31.62 million narrowband users. Notably, monthly average revenue per user for wireless services rose by 1.93%, reaching Rs 152.55 in December, up from Rs 149.66 in September.

In the telecommunication sector, India saw a growth from 1,181.13 million to 1,190.33 million telephone subscribers between September and December, reflecting a 0.78% increase. The overall teledensity surged from 84.76% to 85.23% during the same period.

Urban areas witnessed a rise in telephone subscribers from 658.46 million to 662.56 million, while rural areas saw an increase from 522.66 million to 527.77 million.

Furthermore, Pay Direct to Home (DTH) services garnered a total active subscriber base of approximately 63.52 million, supplementing the existing subscribers of DD Free Dish, as per the TRAI report.
