84 Kg Ganja Seized From BJD-Stickered Car in Odisha’s Berhampur, 5 Detained

Berhampur: Excise officials in Berhampur seized a staggering 84 kilograms of ganja during a routine checkpoint on Sunday. Acting on a tip-off, authorities intercepted a car carrying the stickers of the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) party. This discovery has sparked an investigation into the ownership of the vehicle and potential connections to the illegal drug trade.

The seized cannabis was reportedly found meticulously hidden inside the car. Five individuals from Kandhamal district, who were travelling in the vehicle at the time, have been detained for questioning.

“We have apprehended the individuals involved, but they are maintaining strict silence,” said Snehalata Nayak, DSP of the Excise Intelligence Department. “All detainees are from Kandhamal, and we are actively pursuing leads to uncover the source and intended destination of this large consignment of ganja.”

Sources close to the investigation suggest the narcotics were likely headed for distribution in Bhubaneswar.

Officials from the BJD have refrained from commenting on the incident so far. The presence of party stickers on the seized vehicle has cast a shadow over the operation, raising concerns about potential abuse of influence.
